A range of technologies is available for prototype production, depending on the part size, number of prototypes required, and the required prototype tolerances and material.

  • CNC machining out of solidified resin.  This works particularly well with ABS.
  • Use one sample of the part as a positive master to form a negative mold out of silicon.  Pour the resin into the mold, allow it to solidify and then cut away the silicon.
  • Stereo lithography
  • For several hundred prototypes, a minimum cost injection mold is usually best.  Mold cost can be reduced by simplifications, such as manual operation of side-action members.
